Midterm

It's pretty scary to realize how much advertisements can manipulate your ideas... especially when you're a kid. For the research for the midterm I found an ad for the marines and it was of this guy working through obstacles... getting a sword out of stone... slaying a dragon... then turning into a marine. What a way to get the attention of little boys! It's almost disturbing the way our government is trying to brainwash kids! AAAHHHHH! Don't let your kids watch TV... it's not safe!!!! I wouldn't be surprised if they started playing these types of commercials on cartoon network or the Disney channel! Anyway, I know that it currently isn't quite as bad as make it seem, but I think it's wrong.
In regards to Tim's idea about the draft.... I completely agree. But, I also think that women should be forced to be included. Women want to be treated as equals... so there you go! And as Tim said... it would make people realize that they don't want to be fighting this war, and something would be done about it... finally!!!!!!!

I agree on the women part. It may sound crude or whatever, but if you want to be equal, then do everything to be that way. I think it is unfair that only the men must be drafted. Not all women will be able to fight on the front lines, but that does not mean they cannot be a useful part of the armed forces. So lets step up that equality and get all 18 year old girls signed up with the selective service.

Advertizing to children is definitely scary, whether it's for Honey Combs or the military. I don't think it's necessarily important to shield them from TV all together though. Instead, you should watch the shows with them, and teach them to play during the ads nd ignore them. Or if you have a tivo or somethin' you can just fast-forward through em! And if they do insist on watching them for whatver reason, talk about the commercials with them. Get them to see that the point of the ads they're watching is to make product X look good... and that they're not always going to be telling the story like it is.

And I agree women should be drafted along with men. But I'm hoping against hope that the draft will not be reinstated, and that the uproar against it will somehow end this war.
