Torture is Wrong

Emily commented the video that David posted by saying that people like the guy in the video should be tortured and rapped as punishment because he had no valid reason to be doing what he did, he only did it for sport. However torture should not be practice for any reason, even if it serves as punishment because it is just as wrong. We consider that this guy has no right to have tortured and rapped people therefore what or gives us the right to do to him what we consider to be wrong. If we perform torture even for punishment then we contradict our belief that it is wrong and therefore say that it is Ok. I think the reason why people resort to torture is because it is the easiest option available, I mean what you do to the other person does not damage you in any way so why not do it right. But no, even though with out torture we have a very limited amount of options with which to punish who we think deserve a punishment, we stay away from torture because no matter from what side you look at it, it is still wrong.

I think the use of torture is something that we rarely stop and think about because we sort of assume it's being used by government agencies anyway. Government agencies of security are there to protect us and, so far, we're safe, so we look the other way as to how they give us our safety. A perfect example of ends justifying the means.
I remember seeing the TV series "24," where ANY time they have a prisoner with information, they appeal to his or her sense of ambition or fear for jailtime, but when all other appeals fail, they ALWAYS resort to intense interrogations, which 98% of the time end in some form of torture. This, of course, is just a TV show, but the good guys always win at the end, even if they used torture.
I wonder what message this conveys to the rest of the population about the use of torture? More importantly, how is just watching a torture scene changing our very definitions of self and human potential/limits?

Okay... so I exaggerated a bit... but there should be harsh consequences for these kinds of actions... have you heard of any actions against soldiers like this? I haven't... something more needs to be done. I don't think people like this guy would even need to be tortured since his inmates would probably do that work for us!
