torture
If by using torture we can save millions of live, I think it is worth it. The essay made a lot of sense to me, but it is a little uncomfortable speaking out my opinions on this subject. I have never seen someone being tortured before and the closest thing to that would be watching all the SAW movies. The point is, since I don't know the agony of being tortured and torturing someone, I don't feel like I have enough evidence to support whether torturing a person is right under certain circumstances.

I agree! If it were to save lives, its worth it. But, I've also seen saw and hostel, pretty grusome stuff! But, if someone is willing to kill others, then they probably deserve what they're getting. The only thing is, hopefully they have the right person in custody! I know if I got tortured and was innocent, I'd feel as if I were in some totalitarian society where I had no control over my life or body.
Well, yeah, I agree with you, Mina. You have to stop a person from killing many others. You don't just stand there and tell them 'No! Don't do that ever again!' and give them a time out -_- You have to DO something to help them get back in shape
I think you bring a very good point about experiencing torture. As academicians, we sit high on our pedestal and think we're seeing every aspect of an issue by how many points one side makes vs how many points the other one does. We're really not looking at the issue in terms of the actual people that make up the issue, we're much rather concerned with 'points.' It's almost like flying by plane over a city and thinking we are seeing every aspect of the city, and we are therefore the ones that should decide how the city is run. It's only when you are down in the city, when you live in the city and have to deal with it and the city deal with you, that one can truly know what it is that a city is.
To some extent, I think only when one is actually going through an experience that's similar in nature to being tortured, that one can assess the real elements on whether torture should be practiced or not.
